The Spanish third division club FC Cordoba now has tragic certainty: its player Alvaro Prieto (18) was found dead – by a reporter during a live broadcast.
The youth player had been missing since Friday morning and was last seen at a train station in Seville, where security cameras filmed him. It was said he was on his way home after a night of partying. According to Spanish media, he was kicked off the train because he did not have a valid ticket.
On Monday, his body was found by a TV journalist, wedged between two carriages of a disused train, as ‘Marca’ reports. Because the live broadcast was not interrupted and the reporter did not prevent the body from being seen, there is now sharp criticism.
During the match against Mérida AD on Saturday, FC Cordoba and its fans drew attention to the missing teenager, who was still playing in the U teams. Following the sad news, the club has expressed its deepest condolences and suspended all training activities until further notice. Condolences were collected from all over Spain, including from top clubs Barcelona and the two Madrid clubs Real and Atletico. (ch)
