The world looks at the Middle East in shock. The images of the bloody attack on Israel by the terrorist organization Hamas leave no one unmoved.
Neither does Noussair Mazraoui (25). The Moroccan, who has been with FC Bayern Munich since the summer of 2022, is causing a stir with several pro-Palestinian posts on Instagram. Among other things, he shared a video in which he wished the Palestinians victory in the conflict with Israel. A voice says to a waving Palestinian flag: “God, help our oppressed brothers in Palestine achieve victory. May God grant mercy to the dead, may God heal their wounded.”
Although he finds it disappointing that he has to provide an explanation, Mazraoui speaks out against ‘Bild’. He emphasizes working for peace and justice in this world. He will “always be against all forms of terrorism, hatred and violence.” Mazraoui finds it incomprehensible why he is associated with hate groups.
It’s not about what he thinks because innocent people are murdered every day. “We must all stand against it and speak out against it. That is simply inhumane,” Mazraoui continued. It was never his intention ‘to consciously or unconsciously offend or hurt anyone’.
His club has not yet responded. That’s why politicians are speaking out. Johannes Steiniger (36, CDU), member of the German Bundestag and who himself has the C license as a trainer, has a clear opinion on social media. He calls on Bayern to throw the player out. And demands that “all state options be used to expel him from Germany.”
Another member of the Bundestag echoes the same sentiment. Christoph Ploss (38, CDU) writes on social media: “I hope FC Bayern draws conclusions! Anyone who understands Hamas’ terrible terrorist attacks on Israel has no place in Germany!”
It is more than a question of whether his behavior will actually have such consequences. But sooner or later, FC Bayern will probably have to comment on the incident. (beer)
