Pure joy for the “Springboks”: South Africa can continue to dream of defending their title.

The South Africa national rugby team can continue to dream of defending their title. The three-time world champion won the huge match against host country France (29:28) in Paris and met England in the semi-finals.

There will be no testing in the fourth and final quarter-final – the expected final, so to speak. The French, undefeated in their home tournament, are off to a dream start. After more than four minutes they are 7-0 ahead.

But the “Springboks” are not impressed and keep the hosts at bay with impressive physicality and the utmost discipline. After 20 minutes, South Africa turned the score in their favor (12:7).

France were in front at halftime

The remainder until the break is played with the highest intensity by both teams, not a single meter on the field is given away carelessly. The French – led by playmaker Antoine Dupont, who quickly recovered from a broken cheekbone – managed to equalize in the 32nd minute at 7:19 PM. Thanks to a converted penalty, they even went into halftime with a small lead (22:19).

The war of attrition continued in the second half, with the defending champions able to gain advantages as the match progressed. The South Africans come back from 19:25 behind and eventually win thanks to two converted kicks from Handre Pollard.

England struggle in the semi-finals

In the first quarter-final on Sunday, England, the 2003 world champions, defeated Fiji 30-24 in Marseille. Thanks to the efficiency of their kicker Owen Farrell, who has 20 points, the England team has been confidently on the right track for a long time. At halftime they were 21:10 ahead. But the Fiji outsiders never give up and thanks to two successful tries they reached 24:24 in the 70th minute.
