Shortly before the start of the World Cup in Sölden, Willis Feasey (31) announced his retirement from the ski circuit. He self-critically explains his departure from the skiing phase to “Skinews.ch”: “I am too old and too slow.”
Feasey is probably best known to die-hard fans. The New Zealander has never been able to celebrate great successes in his professional career. But that didn’t stop him from proudly representing his country at every match. Especially because Feasey does not come from one of the typical winter sports countries.
Feasey continued to impress on the slopes in his home country. “You are a legend in New Zealand,” his association wrote at the end of his career. The technology specialist celebrated his World Cup debut on December 7, 2013 in Beaver Creek (USA) in the Super-G. Just two days later, a memorable career moment for the athlete occurred in the giant slalom: “I fell and ended up on Eurosport television. “That was a special moment,” says Feasey, showing self-mockery.
Since then he has competed in five world championships. His best result came at the 2021 World Championships in Cortina d’Ampezzo with 26th place in the giant slalom. He also made it to the 2018 Olympic Games in Pyeonchang.
His biggest victories came in the Australia New Zealand Cup, an international racing series organized by the FIS. In 2016 he won the general classification there. In total he achieved eleven podium finishes, three of which he reached on the highest podium. (Gentlemen)
