Peter Zeidler: Will the FCSG coach move to Augsburg after more than five years in Eastern Switzerland?
Mattias DubachSports reporter

Just this week, St. Gallen’s coach Peter Zeidler (61) surpassed Raimondo Ponte (68) in the Super League charts and is now the No. 2 coach of all time.

But is Zeidler’s five-year era in eastern Switzerland now coming to an abrupt end? According to information from Blick, the German is high on the list at FC Augsburg. Former FCZ sports director Marinko Jurendic (45) is looking for a new head coach after the dismissal of Enrico Maassen (39).

A reporter from Blick reader reports that Zeidler’s car had already been seen in Augsburg. This cannot be verified. However, the FCSG confirmed that the coach was actually missing from training on Wednesday. The reason: like several other people close to the professional team, he was sick.

It won’t be a Breitenreiter

The “Augsburger Allgemeine” also reports on FCA’s interest in Zeidler. And at the same time, FCZ master coach André Breitenreiter (50) would not be considered Maassen’s successor.

Zeidler’s file was already available at the FCA before Jurendic took office, and the Bundesliga club was already working on the Espen coach in May 2022. But then Maassen came.

Now, at the age of 61, Zeidler would coach in the Bundesliga for the first time. His previous experience in the German top flight is limited to more than ten years ago as an assistant coach at Hoffenheim. After being extended twice, his contract in St. Gallen now runs until 2027. Will Espen sports director Alain Sutter (55) have to look for a coach again for the first time since 2018?
