“That says it all”: Oliver Kahn responds to Hoeness’ attack

Oliver Kahn comments on Uli Hoeness’s critical comments about himself in the newspaper “Bild”.

Actually, Bayern is doing well from a sporting point of view and is still undefeated in the Bundesliga. Off the field, FC Hollywood lives up to its nickname. After honorary chairman Uli Hoeness (71) swiped at former CEO Oliver Kahn (54), he responded immediately in ‘Bild’.

Hoeness’s statements towards Kahn are once again causing tension in the Säbener Strasse. The honorary chairman called Kahn’s employment a mistake, accused the ex-Bayern goalkeeper of insufficient work ethic and criticized the dismissal of Julian Nagelsmann.

Kahn’s response follows immediately. The Hoeness attacks surprised him: “To be honest, I’m surprised about it. FC Bayern and I agreed in the summer that we would like to close this chapter on friendly terms and that I would like to remain part of the FC Bayern family in the future. I still support this. Uli Hoeness’s current statements do not necessarily contribute to respectful coexistence.”

Will skater Nagelsmann breathe new life into the DFB?

In his role as CEO of FC Bayern, Kahn always acted “with his best knowledge and conscience for the club”, he defends himself against the accusations. However, after some time he realized that there were different ideas about the club’s development and strategy. For Kahn, however, the issue has now been resolved: “In the end it was better that everyone continued their own path. That says it all.”

What’s going on with Bayern and Eberl?

Will this bring peace to the club? Hardly likely. In addition to the Hoeness-Kahn dispute, the issue of a new sports director in Munich also dominates. This position has been vacant since the dismissal of Hasan Salihamdzicic (46), who had to say goodbye together with Kahn in the final phase of last season. Max Eberl (50), who was recently fired from Leipzig due to a lack of ‘commitment to the club’, is considered a good candidate. However, to the annoyance of many fans who are bothered by Eberl’s past at RB Leipzig. During the 3-0 win against Freiburg last weekend, they protested with banners, according to “Sport1”, not only against the signing of Jérôme Boateng, but also against Max Eberl.

Also tough: despite his dismissal from Leipzig, Eberl is taking part in a leadership trip organized by the DFB during the Nati break. As the German national team launches the Nagelsmann era abroad, Eberl will continue his training alongside 26 other sporting directors and managers from the Bundesliga. Bayern sports director Christoph Freund (46) is also there. It is not unlikely that the two will talk about their future career options – perhaps together at FC Bayern Munich. (Gentlemen)
