Ronaldo has been scoring goals in Saudi Arabia since last winter.

Nothing lasts forever. Neither does Cristiano Ronaldo. The now 38-year-old international star played at the highest level for almost twenty years, until he moved to Saudi Arabia, to Al-Nassr. But now the model professional is seriously thinking about retiring.

As the Spanish platform ‘Sport’ reports, citing Saudi journalist Ali Al-Harbi, CR7 has chosen a specific time for his dismissal. And informed his club about this. “Ronaldo wants to participate in the 2026 World Cup and then quit football,” Al-Harbi said.

He will be 41 years old at the World Cup

The 2026 World Cup, which will take place in the US, Canada and Mexico and will be held for the first time with 48 participants, offers Ronaldo the very last chance to win the most prestigious title in the world of sports. And thus the only major trophy still missing from his display case. With Portugal he won the European Championship (2016) and the Nations League (2019) – but he did not get further than the semi-finals of the World Cup (2006).

He wants to correct that. But that means Ronaldo will remain competitive at the highest level until 2026. When the World Cup starts, he will be 41 years old. Can he still help the Seleção? At least, he is at the moment. Even under new Portuguese coach Roberto Martinez, the five-time Ballon D’Or winner is still qualified.

Not surprising, given his incredible 15 goals in eight games in the Saudi Pro League this season. “I still love football, even at my age. I still love scoring goals and winning games. “I’ll keep going until my legs tell me it’s over,” he recently explained. Knowing CR7, you can assume that he is doing everything he can to ensure that the legs continue until 2026. (sbe)
