Bayern honorary chairman Uli Hoeness has publicly responded to various people surrounding the German record champion.

Bavarian honorary chairman Uli Hoeness (71) described the appointment of Oliver Kahn as CEO in the program “BR24 – the Sunday regular table” as a “big mistake. And when I realized that he couldn’t do that, I changed that together with Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.” Kahn was fired at the end of last season, Hoeness and Rummenigge are both on the supervisory board of boss Herbert Hainer.

However, the release of coach Julian Nagelsmann last March was “not necessarily wise”, the former Bayern chairman said. As national coach, Nagelsmann can now provide important impulses. “He’s completely fresh,” Hoeness said. “He has now recovered well, he is moving forward at full speed.”

Will Eberl come as sports director?

Hoeness also wants to ensure personnel clarity in the management team of FC Bayern within a year. Asked about a possible commitment from Max Eberl, the honorary chairman said on Sunday evening: “I estimate that in the next six to twelve months we will have the staffing that the future should have.”

Eberl (50) has been a busy player at Bayern for a long time and the position of sporting director is currently vacant in Munich. As soon as there is clarity in this area, Hoeness continues: “Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and I will somewhat withdraw from the position of the supervisory board, which is only intended to fulfill an advisory role.” The 71-year-old said he and former CEO Rummenigge would “also take on operational duties” “until we see the ship sailing straight again.” (AFP/che)
