World title numbers 22 and 23: Biles wins two more titles in Antwerp

Simone Biles wins the balance beam and floor titles at the end of the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Antwerp. The 26-year-old American is now a 23-time world champion and has four silver and three bronze medals to his name.

In Belgium, Biles, married to footballer Jonathan Owens since April 2023, climbed to the highest podium a total of four times. She only had to admit defeat on the vault (2nd) and the uneven bars (5th).

Biles performs a fantastic routine on the balance beam and earns 14,800 points. This was also necessary because 17-year-old Zhou Yaqin also shows no nerves when using the tremor device. The difference was 0.100 points. On the ground, Biles has to do a big lunge at the end of the third of four diagonals so she leaves the marker. However, since her exercise is significantly more difficult than that of second-placed Rebeca Andrade, it is still sufficient. Andrade also won five medals in Antwerp (1/3/1).

In the men’s race, Lukas Dauser won Germany’s first gold medal at a world gymnastics championship since 2007. The Olympic silver medalist is in a class of his own on the parallel bars with a total of 15,400 points. The other titles will go to the British Jake Jarman (jumping) and the Japanese Daiki Hashimoto (high bar) on Sunday. The latter had already triumphed in the all-round competition and with the team.
