A year ago on Tuesday, coach Bo Henriksen (48) took over at FCZ. Since then, the Dane has been writing a success story. The balance of a year in Zurich with Henriksen: from relegation candidate to Super League leader.
When “Happy Bo” replaced Franco Foda’s mistake or the intermediate solution Genesio Colatrella, the FCZ was last without a victory. A year later, the FCZ is undefeated in first place. It doesn’t get higher than that. The FCZ was a flop – now the FCZ is top.
With Henriksen’s record, Zurich even challenges Krösus YB. Last season, the FCZ was the second best team in the phase from the 11th round, only the Berners were more successful. But because the start as reigning champions under Foda was so bad, the club played against falling into the barrage for almost the entire season.
But with the new season this pressure is gone. Henriksen adjusted his tactics slightly and now plays in a 3-4-3 system. The result: an extremely strong 2.11 points average for Henriksen. Even then, only YB coach Raphael Wicky can keep up, the champions are one point ahead of Zurich after losing points.
Even André Breitenreiter did not have such an impressive start to the championship season two years ago. At the same time, FCZ, who later became champions, had two points less and had already lost twice. Henriksen has never played nine rounds, which is unique in the club’s history. Henriksen: “Looking back, in thirty years I will only be interested in records!”
There is only one thing that does not fit the Danish FCZ fairy tale. That Henriksen has apparently already indicated internally that he does not want to renew his contract, which expires in 2024. New sports director Milos Malenovic announced that he would soon provide clarity on this matter.
