It’s about money: ex-coach Celestini is taking FC Luzern to court

Celestini spent a total of 79 games on the central Swiss sidelines.

One win from fourteen league games – that was the devastating result at the end of the Fabio Celestini era at FC Luzern. The coach, who was able to celebrate the cup victory with the Central Swiss team in the summer of 2021, had lost the recipe for success. The FCL released Celestini on November 22, 2021 after an away defeat in Lugano.

However, the chapter on Lucerne is still not closed for Celestini to this day. Because now the Super League club and the 47-year-old coach are arguing in court.

It’s about wages

The legal argument is about money. As the news portal “Nau” reports, Celestini would wait until today for wage payments from the FCL.

At the time of his dismissal, Celestini’s contract with FC Luzern would have still run for a year and a half until June 2023. Now a court must decide whether the Lausanne resident is still entitled to money for this period.

A year after the end of his engagement to Lucerne, Fabio Celestini took up another coaching job – this time at FC Sion. But this adventure ended after only six games (two draws, four defeats). He has been without a club since then.

Ugly ending in Lucerne

It quickly became clear to Celestini in the 21/22 season that the time in Lucerne would not end positively. After the cup victory, rumors about Celestini’s departure to YB persisted, which the Lucerne club management took note of in a anything but benevolent manner.

Later, poor results on the field led to increasing tensions between the bosses and Celestini. It remains to be seen whether the payments due have actually not been paid as a result.
