Swiss ski jumper Dominik Peter (22) will not participate in any competition in the 2023/24 season. The Zurich Oberlander is taking a longer break from top sport for health and mental reasons.
Peter and his support team made this decision after a difficult end to the season, Swiss-Ski announced. The association writes that the athletes from the A-selection had developed some problems in the field of nutrition in recent years. “It is important for me to give myself enough time during this process to be able to cultivate a healthy approach to nutrition again,” Peter said in a statement.
Eating disorders are a widespread problem in elite sports and especially in ski jumping. Many ski jumpers hunger for success – because those who are lighter fly further. The world association FIS responded in 2004 with a body mass index rule that is continuously updated. Since then, jumpers have had to reach a minimum BMI value to be able to jump the maximum ski length. (SDA/dti)
