Will Formula 1 get a new team from 2026 (introduction of the new regulations)? It is possible because the FIA has approved the participation of Andretti Formula Racing LLC.

“After going through an extensive application process for potential teams,” it was concluded that the application from the American racing team led by Michael Andretti (who turns 61 on Thursday) met the requirements. Two years ago he tried to get into Formula 1 by taking over Alfa-Sauber – without success.

The four candidates were assessed on their sporting and technical capabilities, the financial resources to participate and the experience and human resources within the team. When it comes to sustainability, we must also be in line with the FIA’s 2030 net zero target.

Now come the problems with Formula 1

Michael Andretti, son of F1 world champion Mario (83, 1978 with Lotus), and his team do all this. FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem (61) is quoted in the statement as saying: “Andretti Formula Racing LLC was the only company that met the stated selection criteria on all essential points.”

The entry would now be submitted for discussion to Formula One Management (FOM) and CEO Stefano Domenicali (58). And this will probably end in a real fight. Because both FOM and all ten existing Formula 1 teams reject an eleventh team. Of course, because the prize money would drop if another racing team took a bite of the pie.

The entry fee is currently $200 million, which is divided among the ten teams. But they want to increase the entry fee for Andretti, a partner of General Motors, to $600 million in the new Concorde Agreement (Formula 1 law).
