Last season, Hanna Aronsson Elfman’s (20) star rose at the World Cup. The Swedish hopeful skier finished in the top fifteen in the slalom eight times, including five times in the top nine. In fourth place, Aronsson Elfman narrowly missed her first podium finish in Sestriere (It). This meant 10th place in the discipline rankings and at the World Junior Championships she was also crowned two-time world champion in slalom and giant slalom.
But now technology specialist Aronsson Elfman has to accept a setback regarding the coming winter. “I had a small fall,” she writes on Instagram with a video showing how violently she fell during a giant slalom run at the training camp in Ushuaia (Arg) in mid-September. “We thought everything was fine,” Aronsson Elfman continues. “But it turned out I had a small fracture in my foot.”
This was initially not discovered during an X-ray examination. The definitive diagnosis was only made upon returning home. As the Swedish Ski Association writes on its homepage, their team doctor Anders Staalman recommended an MRI scan. The small fracture in her left foot was discovered.
“Nothing major,” Aronsson Elfman emphasizes, “but I will have to miss a few weeks of skiing.” A minimum of four weeks is assumed. According to the team doctor, the injury has a positive prognosis for recovery. To support her, Aronsson Elfman will wear a special shoe to protect her foot in the coming weeks.
There is a risk that she will miss the first races of the season. This starts on October 28 with the giant slalom in Sölden (Austria). The first two slaloms will take place for two weeks in Levi, Finland. (beer)
