World Championships in Antwerp: Gymnastics star Hashimoto can no longer defend his title

Hashimoto falls victim to the quota rule at the World Championships in Antwerp.

Japanese gymnast Daiki Hashimoto can no longer defend his all-round title at the World Championships in Antwerp due to the quota rule for finalists.

The world champion and all-round Olympic champion from Tokyo finished third in qualifying after the first two sections with 85,432 points and would certainly have qualified for the final of the best 24 all-round athletes. Because his compatriots Kenta Chiba (85.799) and Kazuma Kaya (85.598) were ahead of Hashimoto, the 22-year-old missed the all-around final.

According to the rules of the FIG world association, only two participants from the same country are allowed to participate in the final. (SDA)
