Japanese gymnast Daiki Hashimoto can no longer defend his all-round title at the World Championships in Antwerp due to the quota rule for finalists.
The world champion and all-round Olympic champion from Tokyo finished third in qualifying after the first two sections with 85,432 points and would certainly have qualified for the final of the best 24 all-round athletes. Because his compatriots Kenta Chiba (85.799) and Kazuma Kaya (85.598) were ahead of Hashimoto, the 22-year-old missed the all-around final.
According to the rules of the FIG world association, only two participants from the same country are allowed to participate in the final. (SDA)
