Not a rarity

According to the Swedish portal Aftonbladet, three people were injured in hospital by the explosion. Police have since launched an investigation into public vandalism and attempted murder. To this end, she is investigating whether the explosion targeted family members of a person in conflict with a criminal network.

Such incidents are not new in Sweden. Gang crime has been widespread for years. There are regular gunfights and explosions in public spaces. Eleven people have already died this month. This makes September the deadliest month in terms of gun violence since the end of 2019, Swedish broadcaster SVT reported.

Ekelund now wants to concentrate on dealing with the explosion. On the sporting front, she won Sweden’s first gold medal in a sprint race at the U18 World Championships over 200 meters in 2013. A year later she won silver at the U20 World Championships on the same course. Later, she was repeatedly slowed down by depression. Only this year she made a racing comeback, but she did not come close to her best performances of ten years ago.
