The cult martial artist at the Schwyzerörgeli: Rico “Ramba” Giger now had short-time work in his sixth professional boxing match.

Of course, the jokes are on point with this outcome. Do you only work part-time, Rico Giger? The professional boxer from Thurgau laughs on the phone and answers: “I just don’t get paid for overtime!”

Rico “Ramba” Giger (34), the express boxer. His light heavyweight fight in Frenkendorf BL against Oszkar Osztafi (32, Un) lasted all of twelve seconds. The first heavy blow is over. “It was actually less than twelve seconds,” says Giger, because the clock was already running when the referee let go of the fight. And it took the fight director an instant to decide on a knockout and the whole thing was essentially over.

Now a title fight awaits in November

The cult martial artist with the Schwyzerörgeli appearance before his fights misses the world record for the fastest knockout punch. In any case, these statistics are kept for world championship fights in professional boxing. Zolani Tete (35) even finished his fight for the WBO title in 2017 in eleven seconds.

For Giger and his Hungarian opponent it was not about a title, but about qualification. “Now I can box for a title in Zurich at the end of November,” says the former K1 world champion, who switched to professional boxing two years ago and has won all six fights since.

About the most recent express victory, he says: “It was a bit of a shame, because I wasn’t able to gain more experience.” Still, Giger is happy that he can put the evening behind him, celebrate his birthday this week with his daughter Leyla (3) and relax.

Giger fought with an injured batting hand

Because the former trash TV star (“Bachelorette”) entered the ring damaged. He suffers from bursitis in his right shoulder. And two weeks before the fight, a table top collapsed on his left hand while “Ramba” was helping a colleague move. “Because I continued to train afterward, it couldn’t heal properly,” he says. “I had cortisone injections before the fight.”

But what role does the quality of the opponent play in a twelve-second performance? Apparently he had just switched from kickboxing to boxing and only got into the game when a number of other opponents were unviable.

The fact is: Giger plays longer with his Schwyzerörgeli before the fight that evening than he spends longer in the ring afterwards!
