The supporters of the newly promoted Premier League FC Burnley certainly did not expect a furious start. “They are still in the Easter egg box,” says coach Vincent Kompany (37), when he was asked about his players before the start of the season. Five game days have now passed. Burnley did not get more than one point. The number of goals scored also leaves a lot to be desired with four goals.
Yet one player at least partly trumps the concerns: Zeki Amdouni (22). Even “The Athletic”, one of the most renowned sports portals, praises the Swiss national player. It is difficult to watch Amdouni’s body movements, his clean touches and fine technique in complete awe without suppressing ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’, it says.
He too had difficulties at first. But at the latest “against Nottingham Forest (1-1) he had his best performance on the right as number 8, cleverly fighting for space and getting involved as much as possible”.
Amdouni also received special praise for the match against Manchester United (0-1). There he only hit the post and keeper André Onana defused an early header. But “The Athletic” highlights Amdouni’s change in position: “Against Manchester United he switched to 9 and was dangerous.”
If Amdouni continues to shine at the same level, the next accolade will only be a matter of time. Maybe after the next matchday against Champions League participant Newcastle United. (Gentlemen)
