Jonny Evans, now 35, made his professional debut for Manchester United in the 2007/08 season. In the same season he won the Champions League with the Red Devils. This season, the Northern Irishman returned to his youth club, deliberately as a squad player.
Because the defense of the English record champions is plagued by injury problems, Evans slides into the starting eleven against Burnley, with Zeki Amdouni in the starting line-up. It is his first start for Manchester since March 3, 2015 against Newcastle (1-0).
At the start of the match, it is the home team that sets the tone. After fifteen minutes, Amdouni got Burnley’s best chance. The Nati star takes the ball past United keeper Onana but fails at the post and narrowly misses his second Premier League goal.

Shortly before halftime, Evans is back in the center of the action. The central defender launches Bruno Fernandes with a long ball into the opponent’s penalty area. The Portuguese takes the ball with a remarkable volley and shoots into the far corner.
