At the European Championships in Emmen, Switzerland clearly missed out on a medal with sixth place in the mixed team time trial.
The sextet with European Championship runner-up Stefan Bissegger (25), Johan Jacobs (26), Fabio Christen (21), European champion Marlen Reusser (32), Elise Chabbey (30) and Nicole Koller (26) lost 34 seconds to the third place -placed Germany. France secured the victory thanks to a great final sprint, which left Italy more than four seconds behind.
Compared to the World Cup in Glasgow, where Switzerland won the gold medal in August, there were two significant absences among the men. Mauro Schmid (23) and Stefan Küng (29) were missing. The latter had a serious crash in the individual time trial a day earlier, suffered several injuries and therefore had to end his season. Without the time trial specialist, Switzerland had no chance.
