“No walk-in customers”: Germans pay respect to YB before Leipzig-Kracher

After a year’s break, YB is back in the premier class. On Tuesday, the Berners will open the new Champions League season in Wankdorf at home against RB Leipzig (from 6:45 PM in the Blick live ticker). The anticipation is great, as is the respect for the bulls.

But the Swiss champions also deserved this from the Germans. Not only the Bundesliga club has words of praise, the German press also warns about the Young Boys. “The Swiss double winner is absolutely not a walk-in customer,” writes the Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR).

Artificial grass and YB quarter

For example, the fact that YB managed to beat Manchester United at the start of the 2021/22 CL season is not ignored in the German media. A fate that the strong team from Leipzig wants to avoid as much as possible. The MDR also speaks – like many others – about the greater home advantage due to artificial grass. And then there is the YB quarter when the fans “raise the alarm again”.

And yet the reigning DFB Cup winner goes into the match as the clear favorite. The Leipziger Volkszeitung (LVZ) shares the same opinion, but writes somewhat cautiously: “RB’s victory is almost mandatory.” A 100% belief that it will be a clear case sounds different. (ch)
