Stefan Kuntz (60) has not yet been fired as national coach of Turkey. As the Turkish association TFF announced on Monday, media reports to the contrary were “not true” and the contract was still in effect. Kuntz, one of the candidates for the position of German national coach, was initially unavailable for comment.
The TFF announced that Kuntz had been invited to the national training center near Istanbul on Wednesday to hold talks with association boss Mehmet Büyükeksi. A public announcement will then take place.
Turkish media reported on Sunday that the former U21 coach of the German Football Association (DFB) had been released. Last Tuesday the coach lost 2:4 to Japan, previously the German national team lost 1:4. It was Kuntz’s fifth defeat in his twentieth international match against Turkey. (AFP)
