Belinda Bencic (26) has to forfeit at the WTA 1000 tournament in Guadalajara, Mexico. The Olympic champion was unable to participate in her second round match due to a gastrointestinal illness.
Bencic, seed number 5, should have started the tournament on Tuesday evening against the American Taylor Townsend after a bye in the first round and also wanted to collect valuable points in Mexico with a view to the WTA Finals of the best eight players of the season.
Bencic’s next tournament appearance is scheduled for next week in Tokyo. (SDA)
