Martina Voss-Tecklenburg is currently unable to work as national coach due to illness.

There have been many discussions at the German Football Association (DFB) in recent days about the dismissal and successor of national coach Hansi Flick (58). The health condition of national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg (55) is almost forgotten. Recent statements by her husband dampen hopes for a quick return of the women’s national coach, who is on sick leave.

“The World Cup in Australia really took Martina away. She came back from Australia already sick, she was mentally and physically weak,” Hermann Tecklenburg (75) told “Bild”. She now lies in their garden, takes it easy and reads a lot. “I will take care of you . That’s why I’m here.”

National coach representation announced

Last Friday, the DFB announced that Voss-Tecklenburg would not be on the sidelines for the first international matches after the historic World Cup debacle in Australia due to illness – the association did not want to say more specifically.

Voss-Tecklenburg will be represented by her assistant coach Britta Carlson (45) in the matches of the new Nations League on September 22 against Denmark and on September 26 against Iceland. According to the association, the publication of the World Cup analysis has also been postponed due to Voss-Tecklenburg disease. It was said that an evaluation would take place after the national coach’s return.

Voss-Tecklenburg’s contract runs until 2025. Her husband’s latest statements further fuel speculation about her professional future. The association does not comment on a ‘Sky’ report stating that her days as DFB coach are numbered. It is officially assumed that the 125-time international will be back on the coaching bench after recovering from illness.

“First of all, we wish Martina a speedy recovery and hope that she will return to our team soon,” said Joti Chatzialexiou (47), sporting director of the national team. Until then, a sports director must be appointed to relieve the national coach.
