“Kosovo belongs to Serbia”: Romanian fans held up this banner.

Scandal in Romania! The European Championship qualifier between Romania and Kosovo is interrupted in the 16th minute. The reason is racist chants from some Romanian fans and a banner being held up in the corner. It says: “Kosovo belongs to Serbia.” When the Kosovan football players discover the banner, they refuse to continue playing.

The referee stops the game and sends the players to the locker room. The Romanian ultras refused to remove the poster for a long time. Even Kosovo’s national anthem is disrupted by dozens of fans who keep chanting “Serbia, Serbia.”

Kosovo’s captain is completely shocked

After a break of about an hour, the game starts again. Kosovo, which dominated the match before the interruption, was down to ten men from the 42nd minute and conceded two more goals shortly before the end. Torino defender Mergim Vojvoda (28) is completely satisfied after the match. “I am very disappointed. Especially after the positive result against Switzerland. And then you come here and you are treated so disrespectfully. That is not how it works. We live in 2023 and they insult our country. This is racism.”

Afterwards, Vojvoda continued and said that in his eyes it was a mistake to return to the field: “It’s just not possible that we are insulted like that. Our families and loved ones shed blood so that we as a country could get to where we are today, and then as a Serb you are insulted in the middle of Romania.”

FCZ-Kryeziu also has bad memories of Romania

What was going on in Romania did not happen at all, Mirlind Kryeziu (26) told Blick. “This is pure racism. There is no place for politics in football.” The FCZ defender was not in the selection of this team, but was there in June when Romania visited Pristina.

There had already been skirmishes there. At that moment, Romanian fans chanted “Kosovo is Serbia” and set off fireworks. “The police responded quickly,” Kryeziu said. After two or three minutes, the Ultras were led out of the stadium.
