Yvon Mvogo before Nati’s comeback: “He deserves the effort”

So far there have been three matches between Switzerland and Andorra, all of which the national team won. During the qualification for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, we won 3-0 in St. Gallen and 2-1 away in Andorra La Vella. With the same result, the national team in the Pyrenees state scored three points in the first leg of the current European Championship qualification last June.

At the age of 43 it’s over: Andorra legend Ildefons Lima, 43 years old and the oldest player ever used in a European Championship qualifier, is now giving his farewell performance. Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Belarus was his last game on Andorran soil – it is unclear whether he will play again in Sion against Switzerland. Lima has been a national player for 26 years; when he made his debut, nine players on the current Swiss national team were not even born yet.

Yvon Mvogo missed the 2022 World Cup in Qatar due to a thigh injury and has only been able to play again since April this year. Now the goalkeeper unexpectedly makes his fifth international match against Andorra. He was actually only called up due to Jonas Omlin’s injury, and now regular number 2 Gregor Kobel has to drop out due to muscle problems. It was clear from the start that Yann Sommer would be sidelined against Andorra.
