This positive news comes at the right time. According to information from Blick, the Swiss League was able to conclude a new TV contract on Thursday shortly before the start of the season. And this is spectacular: in the future, the pay channel Sky, which is best known for its rights to the Bundesliga, will broadcast the matches of our second highest ice hockey league.
But the Swiss League will also be shown on free-to-air television. CH Media, which operates TV24 and 3+, among others, is also involved in the deal with Sky. For example, the entire play-off final series, as well as semi-finals and other selected matches, will be broadcast on free-to-air television. The matches can also still be watched on the company’s own streaming platform, Swiss League TV.
The clubs are responsible for the production of the games. According to information from Blick, each club will receive approximately 300,000 francs for the new TV contract. But there will probably be more to come. Further partnerships are expected to provide additional sources of funding in the coming weeks, which will benefit every club. For example, the deal with a top scorer sponsor has not yet been completed. Thanks to the TV contract with Sky and CH Media, there is now a new starting point in this regard.
By the way, the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation, with its CEO Patrick Bloch and his people, is in charge of this offensive for the Swiss League. It shows that the association has recognized how important a functioning Swiss League is for the future of Swiss ice hockey.
