Weirather (34) wants to remain an SRF ski expert even after her baby break: “I want to be an uncomplicated mother.”

She was a skier in the 1900s, is currently the most popular TV pundit in SRF history – and will soon be a mother! Tina Weirather (34) and her husband Fabio Nay (34) are expecting their first child in 2024. “We are doing well. “It is already an incredibly exciting journey,” says the Liechtenstein resident. They did not yet know whether it would be a girl or a boy. “Maybe we will be surprised,” says Weirather.

Weirather announced her resignation on March 25, 2020. In her 15-year career, she competed in 222 World Cup competitions, winning nine of them. She won the Small Crystal Ball in the Super-G World Cup in 2017 and 2018.

At the 2017 World Championships in St. Moritz she won World Cup silver in the same discipline, and a year later she came third at the Olympic Games – also in the Super-G. She has been a ski expert at SRF in the Women’s World Cup for three years. She is very well received by the vast majority of viewers with her accurate analyses, but also with her empathetic and humorous manner.

“Exciting to ask questions”

But what happens next? To be clear, Weirather has no plans to stop working in television after the birth of her child. The current plan is that after the technology weekend in Kranjska Gora (Sln) on January 6 and 7, 2024, she will put the microphone aside in preparation for the birth. “So I have plenty of time,” she says. Weirather wants to commentate on ski races again next winter.

“I want to be an uncomplicated mother,” she says, adding with a smile, “But that’s probably what everyone wants.” One thing is certain: Weirather has plenty of people around her to whom she can ask for advice and tips. Her two brothers have two children each and Nay’s sister also has two. “A few friends do too, so of course it’s exciting for us to ask questions now,” she adds.

At the same time, the couple also wants to take on a lot. She thinks it is important to be herself as a mother. “And not something you weren’t before.”
