For crime fans, it was time for the crime scene again yesterday, Sunday. Although the Frankfurt case was incredibly boring, dark and confusing, one sequence brightened things up.

Commissioner Paul Brix, played by Wolfram Koch (61), talks to his colleague Glasner (Karsten Mielke, 45) about the current football results of Eintracht Frankfurt. Glasner asks, “How did it end?” The answer: “2:2.” The police officer wants to know further: “Who were Eintracht playing against?” Paul Brix answers: “Young boys from Bern.” Irritation arises and Glasner wants to know with amusement: “Young boys from Bern? How did you come up with a name like that?”

The Swiss champions are happy

On X, formerly Twitter, this conversation provided a glimmer of hope in otherwise devastating user reviews. And the BSC Young Boys themselves also take the comment to heart. When asked by Blick, media spokesperson Stefan Stauffiger said: “We were very happy that the Bernese Young Boys reached the ‘crime scene’ and also posted the series on our website and our social media channels. It hasn’t happened that often that YB has played against Eintracht Frankfurt – and there has never been a 2-2 draw, except in the ‘Tatort’…”

“Young boys in the masturbation stadium”

Translated from English, Young Boys means “young boys,” which not only causes laughter in “Tatort,” as Stauffiger further reveals: “We are used to our club name causing a stir, especially among English-speaking people. The club has existed for exactly 125 years and the name occasionally causes a laugh, but we can live with that. “It’s always a good start for a dialogue.” Background to the name: When the club was founded in 1898, the one year older Old Boys from Basel served as role models.

Pop star Robbie Williams (49), recently living in Switzerland, in Gstaad BE, was also amused by the name. At his 2006 concerts at the Wankdorf Stadium, the Briton had so much fun that he could hardly recover. He kept shouting, “Waaaank-dorf and your team is called Young Boys!” into the microphone. In his local language, this means that the “young boys are playing in the masturbation stadium”. Because “jerk off” translates as a colloquial expression of “self-gratifying.” The Bernese don’t seem to be bothered by this: after all, the word ‘Wank’ also comes from Old High German and means lawn.
