Taken off the track on a stretcher: race canceled after Aegerter’s painful crash

Dominique Aegerter (32) crashes heavily during the Superbike race in Magny-Cours. After an incident with Scott Redding, he is left lying on the asphalt. He is very lucky not to be hit by the following pilots.

Aegerter is initially clearly in a lot of pain and is taken off the track on a stretcher. But he relatively quickly raises his arm and waves to indicate that everything is fine. A short time later he can be seen on the TV images again at the side of the track. The all-clear.

The cause of the accident is not clear

What the TV footage does not show, however, is how exactly the crash occurred. Only the last phase can be seen. The accident victim himself explains the crash a few hours after the race: “I was sure I could drive a positive race and fought with the leading group, but after three laps another driver hit me from behind and I crashed.”

Aegerter also provides information about his physical condition: “I have a little pain in my elbow, but I would like to thank the team very much, they were willing to get me back on the track.” He needs some rest right now.

The race was stopped after the accident and later resumed. Logically without Aegerter, whose engine was also quite damaged. Spaniard Alvaro Bautista won. (SME/men)
