Peter Zeidler (61) is an enthusiastic person. Especially when it comes to young, promising players. Then the eyes of the St. Gallen trainer start to shine. That is no different after the game against Lausanne, when FCSG announced the transfer of Felix Mambimbi (22). He made his debut for YB at the age of 18, played a total of 106 league games, scored 14 goals and 14 assists and was a 19-time national U21 player.
Recently, however, Friborg’s career came to a halt. As YB coach Raphael Wicky has an oversupply in the storm, Mambimbi was deported to the second team and last played in the Promotion League. ‘He was at a dead end. But he is still a young player and wants to restart his career here in St. Gallen,” says Zeidler. The 22-year-old has surprisingly good values and is fast. According to the FCSG coach, he is happy. Integration is, of course, well advanced. “Lukas Görtler already wrote it on Saturday.” A day before the transfer becomes official.
In addition to Mambimbi, FCSG have brought in a defender in Jozo Stanic, in response to Leonidas Stergiou’s departure to VfB Stuttgart. “He is versatile, a solid, good player,” says Zeidler about the German-Croatian, who belonged to FC Augsburg and signed with FCSG until 2025.
Stanic played just two competitive minutes for the Bundesliga, most recently being loaned out to Zwickau, Wehen-Wiesbaden and Croatia to NK Varazdin. But he always played there. “For us it was important that someone came who was in the rhythm,” says Zeidler.
The same cannot be said of Mambimbi.
