Sailor Marit Bouwmeester missed a medal at the Laser Radial World Championships in Galveston Bay, USA. She dropped from seventh to ninth place after the two races on the final day.
Maxime Jonker passed her and finished sixth. A great achievement as she was disqualified from a race early in the tournament.
Bouwmeester, who won Olympic gold in 2016, finished second at the 2012 games and was good for bronze in Tokyo, was still ahead after day two. The four-time world champion said she then fell behind because the wind was a bit too strong.
Jonker won the eighth race on Saturday and was second in the last race on Sunday.
Denmark’s Anne-Marie Rindom won the World Championship.
Ahead of the World Cup, we spoke to Marit Bouwmeester about how she combines motherhood and elite sport.
