The Dutch handball team suffered a painful defeat in their second qualifier for the 2024 European Championship. After the Oranien had already fought their way through Belgium on Thursday, the team of new coach Staffan Olsson lost to Greece in Chalkida by 28:32.
The Orange squad, who beat Greece twice in qualifying for the 2019 World Cup, got off to a bad start. It went from 8:11 to 11:11, but the revival was short-lived: at half-time, Greece, who scored too easily, led 15:12.
The Netherlands also managed to catch up from a gap of two or three goals in the second half, but the Greek attack from 26:26 to 30:27 was too much for the oranges.
The third qualifier for the Orange team will take place on March 8th: a home game against leaders Croatia. Numbers 1 and 2 in each group travel to Germany for the European Championships. The four best numbers 3 also qualify for the final round.
