Cricket players start World Cup with difficult win over United Arab Emirates

The Dutch cricketers have started the T20 World Cup in Australia with a win. The United Arab Emirates, on paper the weakest opponent in the group, were defeated with great difficulty.

The bowlers gave Orange a good starting position at half-time. Thanks in part to three wickets from Bas de Leede and excellent bowling from Tim Pringle, the United Arab Emirates couldn’t get past 111 runs.

Max O’Dowd (23 runs) got off to a fast start but then faltered. Captain Scott Edwards only led his team on the penultimate ball.

Namibia surprised

Namibia and Sri Lanka also belong to the Netherlands group. Namibia caused an upset by defeating Sri Lanka, recent Asian Cup winners, with impressive numbers: 163 for 108 runs.

Group Nos. 1 and 2 qualify for the second group stage, which also includes the top countries. On Tuesday, Namibia is the Orange’s next opponent.
