Ethiopian Tsegaye Getachew has won the Amsterdam Marathon. After more than 42 kilometers he arrived solo at the Olympic Stadium and clocked a time of 2:04:48. Just behind Getachew, Kenyan Titus Kipruto and Ethiopian Bazezew Asmare finished second and third.
Like last year, Khalid Choukoud (36) secured the Dutch title by crossing the finish line in 2:09:34. He also dipped just under his personal best time. Last year Choukoud triumphed at the NK in Amsterdam on 10/2/25.
The frontrunners quickly had to give up the course record from 2021 (03/02/39 by Tamirat Tola), but it turned out to be an exciting edition. The lead group consisted of five runners up to Vondelpark, but Getachew just ran away.
In the women’s race, victory went to debutant Almaz Ayana, who won Olympic gold in the 10km in 2016. Ethiopia’s Ayana finished in 2:17:22, more than half a minute under Angela Tanui’s course record (2:17:57).
