Just a rumor over the weekend, Monday night it was a fact. Marcel Sabitzer (29) leaves FC Bayern Munich and signs with number two and arch-rival Borussia Dortmund. The transfer earns the German champion around 20 million euros and saves him the high salary of 10 million euros a year. The midfielder earns 2.5 million euros less at BVB, but has better starting chances than at Bayern.
The Austrian moved from RB Leipzig to Munich in the summer of 2021, but never got beyond a reserve role. Sabitzer was loaned to Manchester United last winter for match training, but was unable to convince the Red Devils to take the option to buy. Back at Bayern, coach Thomas Tuchel (49) seems to have informed him according to “SportBild” that he had no plans for him, leaving Sabitzer to look for a new club.
The 71-time international expressed his frustration over the time with the record champions on Instagram. He deleted all Bayern-related posts over the weekend, even though – according to his own statement – this was his passionate club as a child. Some of the posts can now be seen again, but the anger about the time in Munich seems to run deep. (nsa)
