Roman Mityukov shows a strong performance in his first appearance at the World Championships in Fukuoka. The man from Geneva entered the semi-finals with the sixth best time in the 100 m backstroke.
Mityukov, who finished seventh at last year’s World Championships in Budapest in his main discipline, the 200m backstroke, completes the 100m backstroke in the preliminary round in 53.57 seconds, missing his Swiss record by just two hundredths. He must remain in the semi-finals in the afternoon if he wants to reach the final with the best eight.
Antonio Djakovic in the 200m crawl and Lisa Mamié in the 100m breaststroke are much less convincing, but will also be in the semifinals. Both secure qualification in sixteenth and last.
Nina Kost has no chance in the 100 meter backstroke. With her time ahead, she is more than a second and a half above her Swiss record. (SDA)
