Let’s talk about a racer who actually puts money on the table for every lap he completes. His name: Roy Nissany (28). A nice guy without airs and graces, certainly not blessed with success, but with a heart full of passion.

He was born in Tel Aviv – and 38 years ago father Chanoch came to the former Jewish stronghold of Budapest. His family was already blessed with countless millions, now he mainly earns his money from real estate and recently built the new, super modern race track at Lake Balaton. For almost 200 million euros out of my own pocket. But the Hungarian GP will stay here in Budapest until 2032.

First F1 test in the Sauber C31

Back to Roy. In 2014 he did the first private Formula 1 test in Valencia – in a Sauber C31. It must have cost half a million back then. Under the motto: conviviality is a must.

In 2019 he was also allowed to test the Williams GP car and in 2020 he was accepted into the Academy. Those years saw Nissany in GP action during a few Friday practices. And in 2021 he was even allowed to participate in the official World Cup test in Bahrain. The result was always secondary. The fun was always in the cockpit.

Roy Nissany drove his 111th Formula 2 race here on Saturday. The Israeli (also with a French passport) was 17. He must have enjoyed himself again, in a car that he obviously has to pay for.

Highlight: third place in Monza in 2021

His career highlight: 2021 sprint race in Monaco. He was a sensational third behind winner Zhou and Aston Martin reserve driver Drugovich.

Back to father Chanoch: he was also a racing driver and drove the Formula 1 Minardi in Budapest on Friday morning in 2005. It must be fun.

A permanent place in Formula 1 is no longer an option for his son Roy. Moreover, the era of paid drivers has finally come to an end. Due to the budget limit and the many sponsors, the teams all have a full war chest and they are only looking for the best talent. And unfortunately they are very rare.
