Nati star shows off her tattoos: Reuteler wears her best colleague’s birthday on her skin

At 24 years old, Géraldine Reuteler is still one of the wild youngsters. Eintracht Frankfurt’s Nidwaldner is the leader of the new generation in the national team and is also an undisputed regular at the World Cup in New Zealand. In the victory in the opening game against the Philippines, she is one of the strongest Swiss women and also involved in the realization of the second national goal.

But young is not automatically inexperienced – when SonntagsBlick Reuteler mentions that she has not been around as long as the old guard around Ramona Bachmann (32), Ana-Maria Crnogorcevic (32) or Lia Wälti (30), the offensive artist almost reacts a little indignantly. “I may still be quite young, but I’m not inexperienced anymore,” she says, referring to the numbers.

In fact, at the age of 24, Reuteler is already playing her third final round after the EM 2017 and the EM 2022 and already has 56 caps to her name – although she missed a whole year after her cruciate ligament rupture in 2021 and two surgeries. Had Switzerland qualified for the 2019 World Cup, it would be their fourth major tournament.

At the age of 24, he has been in the national team for six years. The passage of time can also be read externally on Reuteler’s body. The star from Frankfurt loves tattoos. At the national debut in 2017, a cartridge ring on the right forearm is still the most noticeable body painting. But now she says: “I’ve got quite a few tattoos by now…”

For SonntagsBlick, Reuteler explains her main drivers.

Right upper arm, front: “It says 02/06/2001. This is the birthday of my two smaller brothers, they are twins. One of them also had my birthday tattooed.”

Right upper arm, lateral: “It’s a newer theme. It’s a face with geometric signs and flowers growing out of the head. That suits me because I always think a lot.”

Left upper arm, front: “I also have a date there. August 7, 1998 is my dear colleague’s birthday. He also tattooed my birthday. I met him when I came to the training center in Biel about ten years ago. It has nothing to do with football, we went to normal school in Biel together. We’re really good friends to this day.”

Left upper arm, back: ‘It’s an arc. It represents my mother’s zodiac sign, she is Sagittarius.”

Left forearm, inside: “It was my first tattoo and it’s for my family. It’s French for “Family is a priceless gift”. Then there are the first letters of the family members and “huit”, French for eight, because that was the house number where I grew up. French is just a beautiful language. I speak it a little bit, my mother can do it well too. My grandmother is Italian, but lives in the south of France.”

Left forearm, outside: “My mom and I had it done together. She has the same thing, and we just liked the motif.”

Right thigh, front: “Here I have a tiger with two different halves of the face. This symbolizes the fact that each person always has two different faces. The tiger is also my favorite animal.”

Left thigh, front: «A saying in English that probably speaks for itself: «The world is much bigger than your brain. Stop living in your head.”

Upper back: “Behind that are my older brothers’ and my mom’s birthdays.”

Will there be more tattoos soon? If so, then only in winter, says Reuteler. «I always go to the same tattoo artist in Switzerland and usually in December. You should not go out in the sun with it for a few days. It’s easier in winter.” A new body jewelry for Christmas – what will be added at the end of the year? Reuteler: “I still have no idea!” Perhaps the World Cup in New Zealand will be a source of inspiration.
