38 years ago: a Swiss swam a world record

class=”sc-29f61514-0 fQbOYE”>

At the World Swimming Championships in Fukuoka we hope for medals again this week. The first ever World Cup medal for Switzerland captured in Madrid in 1986 Dano Halsall (60) – a silver medal in the 50-meter freestyle, for which he released a fountain at the photo shoot. Even crazier: on July 21, 1985, the Swiss from Geneva wrote sports history, crawling towards a world record in Bellinzona! With 22.52 seconds he was the fastest swimmer in the world for 138 days.

As a player European, Vice World and German Champion (3 x). The latter also three times as a coach. Felix Magath has been through everything in football, also worked as a manager and general manager. As a nod to his coaching methods, he was nicknamed Quälix. He celebrates his birthday on Wednesday 70th birthday.

These are the record top scorers in the Super League

1. Jean-Pierre Nsame (30): 32 goals – 2019/20 season
The Super League started its 21st season yesterday. The record top scorer since their formation in 2003 is YB striker Jean-Pierre Nsame with 32 goals (2019/20). Also in 2020/21 and 2022/23, the top scorer belonged to the Cameroonian.

2. Seydou Doumbia (35): 30 goals – season 09/10
Also 2nd place goes to a YB player – to a former. Seydou Doumbia was top scorer of the 2009/10 season with 30 goals. The Ivorian also captured the crown twice: 2008/09 with YB – and 2016/17 with Basel.

3. Christian Gimenez (48): 27 goals – 2004/05 season
From 1997, the Argentinian played in Switzerland. In Lugano, Christian Gimenez was celebrated as the NLA’s top scorer in 2001. He then moved to FCB, with whom he became top scorer twice in the Super League.

4. Alex Frei (44): 27 goals – 2010/11 season
As a teenager, Alex Frei left FC Basel in 1998 and returned in 2009. With Basel, he captured the top scorers award in 2011 and 2012, one less than Gimenez, putting him in 4th place.

was tallied by the German Tennis Association in 2022. However, things looked bleak for the pros at Wimbledon. After the first two rounds, all four women were eliminated. Of the six men, only Alexander Zverev (pictured) and Maximilian Marterer reached the third round, failing to even make it into the second week. In comparison, the Swiss Tennis Federation has only 164,378 members. And what did the Swiss do at Wimbledon? Of the eight who started the main draw, Belinda Bencic was the last to fail: in the round of 16 against the number 1 in the world Iga Swiatek.
