A new shipment of works starts on Monday to improve A Malata

Author: Cesar Toimil

The Xunta, which is contributing €550,000, and the City Council joined forces to correct the facility’s deficiencies so that Racing could play home games

The collaboration between Xunta de Galicia and Concello de Ferrol will allow new improvements to be carried out at the A Malata stadium. In total, the Xunta is financed by the City Council with 550,000 euros, so that these works can be carried out and correct some of the defects that the inspectors of the Professional Football League discovered in the sports facility, due to which Racing could not play their matches in A Malata, and Balaídos, thanks to the generosity of Celta, was designated as an alternative ground.

The situation was serious, with a difficult solution, although this time the politicians, the management, showed that there is power in desire. Xunta and Concello rolled up their sleeves and within the framework of the law, because it could not be otherwise, the necessary emergency procedures were requested so that the administrations could “fly”. Diego Calvo, vice president of the Xunta, received the economic item (550,000 euros) and urgently put this agreement to the last council of the Xunta, so that the money would be available. For his part, José Manuel Rey also did everything he could to lend a hand in urban planning, all paperwork, building permits, tenders, etc. were processed according to urgent procedures.

On Monday, a new series of works will begin on the Ferrol football stadium, built in 1993 and almost abandoned for the last 30 years of maintenance, to make it a fairly clean facility that can be enjoyed by the thousands of Racinguistas fans who attend matches and that represents the city in a dignified way.

Diego Calvo, the first vice president of the Xunta de Galicia, and José Manuel Rey, the mayor of Ferrol, organized the signing of this agreement in the amount of 550,000 euros yesterday morning. “Today we are taking a very important step for Ferrol, for Racing and for sport,” the mayor of the city emphasized, “because a little more than thirty days after taking over this new corporation, we want to sign this contract, which will help us overcome the serious difficulties, which we have encountered, with the Malata stadium with serious defects, with problems in electrical installations, evacuation, etc. We are declaring a state of emergency in order to correct all these defects and at the same time we are asking for economic cooperation from the Xunta de Galicia to restore all metal and wooden carpentry, electrical installations, air conditioning, public address system, security, among other small things. Or more importantly, we encountered a problem and solved it, trying to solve it.

He also thanked Diego Calvo for the quick help of the Xunta de Galicia when it came to securing the money to face the works in such urgency.

Diego Calvo pointed out that the initiative is part of Xunta’s commitment to work with the councils to improve the infrastructure for the provision of municipal services: «In Ferrol, sports facilities have undergone an important evolution, and in A Malata there has been an emergency. In addition to the stadium, we studied other measures with the mayor, another agreement on landscaping (everything indicates that he was referring to the A Malat pavilion, although he did not mention the building) ».

Diego Calvo thanked all the work of the Council and the services of the Xunta de Galicia to make this agreement a reality in just a few days.
