“Hellish pain”: Skicrack Weber dreams after the horror season of the 2025 World Cup

Ralph Weber (30) actually wanted to gain a foothold in the World Cup last ski season. But that did not work out for the former junior world champion. His back threw a spanner in the works. Specifically: a hernia.

For a month he was plagued by “hellish pain”. In “St. Galler Tagblatt” he says about the suffering: “I could only sleep for three hours at most.” Weber, who had secured a regular starting place in the World Cup thanks to his victory in the European Cup downhill standings, had to end his season after finishing 55th in Beaver Creek (USA) “Drugs didn’t help. Lying, standing, sitting – everything hurt a lot.”

World Cup in Saalbach as a big goal

Course? Impossible. Weber had to be glad he could take a few steps at all. He even considered resigning.

But now Weber sees land again. He is fit and in summer training: “The horror is over.”

In Zermatt USA he is preparing for the coming winter. It doesn’t get any easier for the veteran without the permanent place. Finally, young competitors such as Alexis Monney (23) and Franjo von Allmen (21) move up. “But I’m in a good mood.” Weber, whose career highlight is a 10th place in the 2020 Lauberhorn descent, dreams of starting at the 2025 World Championships in Saalbach-Hinterglemm (Austria).
