Zhang Shuai discusses a point with the referee.

Great excitement in the first round at the WTA tournament in Budapest: With the score of 5: 5 and 15:15 in the first set, a backhand from the Chinese Zhang Shuai (34) is given.

The print on the clay court shows that the ball was still scratching the line. Despite long discussions, the chair umpire refrained from correcting the wrong decision.

Although the case is actually off the table, a point later there is a fuss: Zhang Shuai’s opponent, the Hungarian Amarissa Toth (20), clouds the print. “What are you doing? Wait wait wait! Leave the mark,” shouts the Chinese. There are whistles from the Hungarian public for that.

It’s all too much: After the game, Zhang Shuai gives up the game because of a panic attack. As the Portuguese tennis journalist José Morgado writes on Twitter, the number 45 in the world has been struggling with mental problems for some time. (cmu)
