Miguel Gayoso Vazquez (Ourense2005) is one of the great motorsport talents in our province, and he showed it in the modality Automotive cross, in which he already has a European title, before making the jump to the senior category at a very young age. Despite this, the up-and-coming driver has a passion for motoring, and on one of the weekends of his busy schedule, we could see him in Climbing Chantada. And he didn’t come back empty-handed.

With his father from Chantal, the mythical encounter with the Mountain — recognized at national and European level — was the object of Miguel’s desire: “I’ve been coming here since I was two years old, if I’m not careful, later I even went as a mechanic with my father who participated in it, but in the end it was best to do it as a pilot. Having so much public at the bottom of the ditch helps a lot and I was able to fulfill a dream that recently seemed unattainable.

And the very fast man from Ourense blew up the Dicode boat of his father Óscar, who explained with a certain amount of pride: «It has an engine that is not prepared at the level of the competition, but we tried to fine-tune it. In the first practice he was only 6 tenths off my best time and in the end he beat all the CMs, except for Javi Villa, the Spanish champion on several occasions”. His son explained it in a very natural way. In fact, he decided to participate in this edition only after several passes for the television reportage: «In the first race I already felt very comfortable with the car and I thought I would enjoy it to the maximum. Of course, if you’re having a good time, you end up running and going all the way, so the times started to improve, I improved with each run and managed to settle in the low 1.57s, which helped me earn a good total and win regional trophy».

An outstanding victory, taking into account the quality of specialists in the Galician competition, such as Martín Villar, also from Ourense, whom he left behind by more than five seconds in the final standings: «I know that I will like anything that has wheels and a motor, but apart from Car Cross, I was always very attracted to rallies and climbs. Anyway, I felt a lot better than expected and didn’t think about going for the win with Dicode.

Miguel’s schedule is very busy, with his steady participation in both the Spanish and European championships, where he makes a good impression in his first senior year, after winning the XC Academy Trophy, reserved for juniors.”
