Isco has not yet digested his failed transfer to the Bundesliga.

Isco (31) has achieved many successes in his career. With Real Madrid (353 games) he won the Champions League five times, the World Club Championship four times and the Spanish championship three times and in 2013 he became European U21 champion with Spain.

And last winter he was almost part of a transfer hammer. Isco was about to switch to Urs Fischer (57) and Union Berlin. But then the deal fell through on the home stretch.

“We would have liked to see Isco with us, but we have our limits. Contrary to the previous agreements, these were exceeded,” Union manager Oliver Ruhnert told “Bild” at the time. Isco’s side, on the other hand, claimed that “our negotiating partner was no longer willing to move within the framework originally discussed”.

Offer out of the blue

Further details were not known. But now Isco is unpacking. “I have a lot of guilt, but what happened in Berlin was terrible,” he says in an interview with the Spanish sports newspaper “Marca”.

review. On the last day of the transfer window, his agent called him in the afternoon. Union Berlin is interested. The offer: contract until the end of the season plus the option of two one-year extensions. It took Isco five minutes to find out more about the club before deciding on the deal.

15 minutes changes everything

Then everything went very fast. He packed his bags and traveled to Berlin. There the first pictures were taken and the next day the medical check-up would take place. But along the way there was a turning point. “They called me and suddenly told me they couldn’t register me for the Europa League,” said Isco. A second call later. The agreed salary is reduced. The Spaniard would have accepted both.

But then his phone rang for the third time. He was told that “the agreed contract length was not correct and they would reduce it”. Within fifteen minutes half of the contract was thrown overboard. “It was very disrespectful,” Isco summarizes. “I’m not 18 anymore and it wouldn’t have been my first contract. So I said I wouldn’t sign something like that.”

A few months after that mess, Isco is still without a club. Yet he does not want to think about the end of his career. “I have an incredible desire to play again,” he says. And reveals: “I have a few offers”. (bir)
