Stricker on double peak in Gstaad: ‘It’s a huge honor to play with Stan’

Dominic Stricker’s memories of Gstaad are excellent: here he achieved his first and only tournament victory on the ATP tour in 2021 – in doubles, at the time still alongside Marc-Andrea Hüsler (27).

This time, Stricker can again dream of a coup. The 20-year-old tackles the doubles competition together with veteran Stan Wawrinka (38), as he did at the Davis Cup in Trier at the beginning of this year. Stricker says: “Stan is a player you look up to as a young Swiss player. I am very happy.” The left-hander praises Wawrinka’s Palmarès with the three Grand Slam titles, the victory in the Davis Cup and in the Olympic doubles (2008, with Roger Federer): “It is a huge honor to work with him to play. I also expect the atmosphere here in Gstaad to be great – I’m just going to enjoy it.”

For Stricker, Monday’s first-round doubles (against Serbian duo Ivan Sabanov/Matej Sabanov) marks the first outing since his successful Wimbledon premiere, in which he qualifies his way into the second round and only the top there. 10 players Frances Tiafoe (25) failed. The Berner, who received a wild card from his home tournament, only intervenes in singles on Tuesday.
