The number 1 in tennis: Carlos Alcaraz (20) is currently the benchmark of everything.

He should have kept his fingers crossed for Carlos Alcaraz in particular: the Spaniard Rafael Nadal congratulated the new superstar of the tennis world a few minutes after his victory over Novak Djokovic (36).

Rafael Nadal (37) wrote on Twitter: “Congratulations, Carlos Alcaraz! You made us very happy today and our pioneer in Spanish tennis, Manolo Santana, certainly cheered wherever he was. A big hug and enjoy the moment, champ!

Nadal is reminiscent of a great player in Spanish tennis: Santana was considered the world’s best tennis player in the 1960s and in 1966 he won the Wimbledon tournament for the first and only time.

“Too good of Alcaraz, too good!”

Congratulations from great athletes are pouring in, especially from Spain. Formula 1 legend Fernando Alonso (41) writes alone on Twitter: “The best! Congratulations.” And his Spanish namesake in Formula 1, Carlos Sainz (28), does the same. He writes: Unbelievable! Congratulations crack, I’m proud of you!”

Carlos Alcaraz is a self-proclaimed fan of the Real Madrid football team – and gets mail from it. The team writes: “Congratulations on your brilliant win at Wimbledon. And congratulations on continuing to claim the No. 1 ranking in world tennis. You are a source of pride for Spanish sport and for all Real Madrid fans.”

The hard-fought match ripped the spectators off their seats, especially Alcaraz caused amazement with spectacular points. Player Victoria Azarenka (33) writes: “Too good from Alcaraz, just too good! What a match!”

Alcaraz combines the three greats

Denis Shapovalov (24) agrees and writes: “What a final. These guys keep raising the standard!”

The greatest honor for Carlos Alcaraz was for the defeated Novak Djokovic himself. Alcaraz combines the forces of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and himself, he said at the press conference.

For example, Alcaraz has Nadal’s fighting mentality and defense, playing the backhand – one of his strengths – like Djokovic himself. “I think he essentially has the best of all three worlds.” I’ve never played against someone like him. He’s a complete player.” (new)
