In the last kilometer the battle for the yellow jersey flared up. Slovenia’s Pogacar attacked and gained a few seconds over Dane Jonas Vingegaard, whose lead in the general classification was reduced to nine seconds.
The leading group climbed the 17 km long climb with an altitude difference of 1200 m with a lead of three and a half minutes. Kwiatkowski broke away early. The former world champion from Poland came through confidently, although the Emirates team, the team with Pogacar, were already picking up the pace at the foot of the ramp.
The last time the Grand Colombier was a stage destination was in the summer of 2020. Pogacar won at that time several seconds ahead of his compatriot Primoz Roglic, from whom he surprisingly took over the yellow jersey at the end of the tour. This scenario may repeat itself in 2023. Pogacar currently makes a slightly stronger impression than Vingegaard.
The peloton tackles the first of four Alpine stages on Saturday. By Wednesday evening, the riders will have to deal with 15 recorded climbs, eight of which are first category and two out of category. (SDA)
