Yoeri Havik has won the world title in the points race. With 76 points he was ahead of Germany’s Roger Kluge and Belgium’s Fabio Van Den Bossche.
After 50 laps there was already the first serious attempt to set a lap, Havik reacted alertly and was rewarded with a lap advantage and the corresponding twenty points. It gave him the leadership position at the time.
Havik then metered his efforts and fell back down the rankings but was alert when Roger Kluge tried to turn a lap with forty laps to go. With that he took the lead again. He didn’t give up anymore.
Hawk has never won a medal at a World Championships. Last year he became European champion in the clutch race together with Jan-Willem van Schip. Van Schip was the last Dutch world champion in the points race in 2019.
Jeffrey Hoogland convincingly qualified for the final of the 1K time trial this morning. The number two of Thursday’s keirin and world champion of 2018 and 2021 lapped 58.294 (67.578 kilometers per hour).
Hoogland, who crashed after the Keirin final but apparently had no after-effects, finished more than first place in the field of 25 riders on his time. Number two Matteo Bianchi from Italy conceded 1.1 seconds.
Tonight at 8pm Hoogland and Bianchi will be back on track with six others for the medals battle.
