Since June 14, it has been known that the new Winti trainer is called Patrick Frame. But the 54-year-old only signed the negotiated two-year contract more than three weeks later. The reason: the European Championship U21 in Romania, where the Swiss team stayed until the quarter-finals a week ago.

And that means that a handshake and a yes count for something,” said Frame after the 2-0 win in a friendly match against Aarau, almost the dessert after signing the contract. He was never afraid that those responsible for Winti would switch to another coach during the U21 European Championship: “The talks with sports director Oliver Kaiser were very convincing. The club gave me the feeling from the start that this was the ideal solution.”

This is also evident from the fact that Framework did not actively engage with Winti after the announcement of Bruno Berner’s departure to GC. “I didn’t apply, but actually had the plan to compete with the U21 national team in the next campaign. Until Oli Kaiser called and convinced me one hundred percent that we should work together.”

Alex Frei and Patrick Framework: Duel against the past

Test opponent Aarau also has a new coach, none other than Winti’s promoter Alex Frei.
